I set a reminder for myself nine months ahead to start looking for alternatives with a significant enough buffer time before the LastPass renewal. I planned for a future switch when I upgraded my account to premium. Me: what is this UWP thing? Let me try that. It’s a UWP application so ugly that one thinks it’s a leftover from a developer test.

I signed in to the browser extension using my account (the one I use the most).LastPass comes with a desktop application. It felt like using an application from a different era, something coming from the nineties. It’s a UX issue, it’s minor, but it was extremely annoying.įinally, the overall UX was tremendously poor, especially when using the browser extension. The downside is that the work account with shared things is the default vault, so newly created credentials are stored there, and one must remember to switch the vault when storing new credentials. That made it so that logging in with my work credentials gave me access to my stuff too. Given that I had no admin rights on the work account, the only solution was to share my private account with the company one. For example, I had the LastPass company account for shared work accounts and security tokens. LastPass’ solution to that is account sharing. Third, there is no way to log in to different vaults simultaneously. For example, two-factor authentication worked poorly on iOS devices in some circumstances. Second, I had a few minor technical issues. There were some concerns related to LogMeIn, the LastPass parent company at the time, being acquired by private equity. I upgraded to the premium license, which gave me one year to decide what to do. I made the most straightforward move: Ì threw money at the problem. I agreed, but at the time, I wasn’t in a position to move immediately to something else. The general perception was that it was a way to milk money out of their users. The community wasn’t happy about the way LastPass handled the change. I need access to my passwords from all those devices. I own a desktop computer, a laptop, an iPad, and an iPhone.
